He remains forever.
Our great Pope of history, John Paul II, often quotes St. Paul's letter to the Hebrews, 13:8, which reads: 'What Jesus Christ was yesterday, and is today, He remains forever.' The old sage has been pondering on these words recalled so often by the Vicar of Christ, and he again looked at this quotation from Scripture. It is extremely interesting, notes the sage, that immediately following these words of St. Paul we have the very pertinent instruction
'Do not be carried aside from your course by a maze of new doctrines.'
The obvious question, sage concludes, is this: Is the Holy Father proclaiming not only that the doctrines of The Universal Church are unchanging, but also that we must be aware of modernist doctrines that have seeped in to corrupt Church teachings? No doubt too, the Holy Father wants us to recall Vatican Two teaching, he suggests. The magnificent Vatican Two stated this: 'The Church also maintains that beneath all changes, there are many realities which do not change and which have their ultimate foundation in Christ, Who is the same yesterday and today, yes and forever. [4]' (Refer PASTORAL CONSTITUTION: ON THE CHURCH IN THE MODERN WORLD - GAUDIUM ET SPES Proclaimed By His Holiness, Pope Paul VI on December 7, 1965.)
